Historical evolution

On March 5, 1979, the 80th anniversary of the birth of Comrade Zhou Enlai, the former residence of Zhou Enlai in Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province was officially opened to the public.
On December 11, 1984, Deng Xiaoping wrote the plaque of “The Former Residence of Comrade Zhou Enlai”.
In March 1986, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China approved the construction of the Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall in Zhou Enlai’s hometown.
On January 13, 1988, the former residence of Zhou Enlai was approved by the State Council to be included in the list of the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
In 2005, Zhou Enlai’s former residence was identified by the state as one of the 100 red tourism classics in the country; Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall was established as the first 4A scenic spot in Huai’an.
