Xinjiang Bayinbulak National Nature Reserve is located in Hejing County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with an area of 100,000 hectares. It was established in 1980 by the People’s Government of Xinjiang Autonomous Region. In 1988, it was promoted to the national level. The main protection targets are rare water birds such as swans. Habitat breeding ground. It is the first swan nature reserve in the country.

In 1980, it was approved by the People’s Government of Xinjiang Autonomous Region.
In 1988, he was promoted to a national nature reserve.
In 2006, the Bayinbulak National Nature Reserve was listed as one of the first 51 national forestry demonstration protected areas.
The Bayinbulak National Nature Reserve in the Bayinbulak Nature Reserve is located at the bottom of the Longduus Basin in the middle of the Tianshan Mountains. It is located in the northwest of Hejing County, southeast of Yili Valley, and south of Tianshan Mountain. It is about 2,500 meters above sea level and covers an area of about 23,000 square kilometers. The geographical coordinates are 83°42′-85°51′ east longitude and 42°59′-43°07′ north latitude. It is a national nature reserve with a total area of 1368.94 square kilometers, a core area of 451.75 square kilometers, a buffer zone of 698.16 square kilometers and an experimental area of 219.06 square kilometers.
At an altitude of over 2,400 meters, it is a high mountain basin.
The climate is cold and humid, with spring and autumn, rain and snow, mountains and springs, wide natural pastures, abundant water plants, annual average temperature of -4.6 °C, extreme maximum temperature of 25.4 °C, and extreme minimum temperature of -40.5 °C. There are many natural precipitations, and the annual rainfall is about 270mm. There are snowfall all the year round, more snow, fog, and the frost-free period is extremely short. The longest frost-free period is only 28 days, and the accumulated temperature of ≥0°C is less than 1300°C. The main meteorological disasters include cold wave, low temperature, heavy snow, freezing damage and drought.
The Bayinbulak Nature Reserve has nearly 140,000 hectares of lakes and marshes. It is the southernmost part of the world’s wild swan breeding and is known as the “Swan Lake.” In addition to the swan, the nature reserve has five other national first-class key protected animals and 17 national second-class protected animals.
The protected area has more than 160 species of plants. Carex, edulis, water mites, raccoon, cedar, sphagnum, scallions, and water stalks are the main species in the swan breeding area. On the open hillsides, alluvial and alluvial fans are developed, and the alpine grasslands are developed. A large area of swamp vegetation is distributed in the center of the basin. There are many shallow water plants in the water, but mainly marsh vegetation.
The total investment of the project is 230.3 million yuan. The main contents are: 94 kilometers of non-main roads in scenic spots, 170 kilometers of walking roads, 71200 square meters of parking lots; 3 water supply wells, 8000 meters of water supply pipes, 7800 meters of drainage pipelines, and 1 sewage treatment station. 5 environmental septic tanks, 13 garbage collection, 1 garbage disposal station, 245 garbage bins, 23 environmental protection toilets; 1 solar photovoltaic power station, 3 substations, 69,800 meters; information consulting services and management 2,807 square meters of housing; 16 kilometers of mountain and road reinforcement; 50 households need to be relocated; 1,800 square meters of tourists’ security facilities; 45,900 square meters of environmental protection.
There are 128 species of golden eagle birds, belonging to 14 orders, 30 families and more than 80 genera, including 53 species of passerine, 75 species of non-quephus; 95 species of breeding birds, accounting for 74%, of which 34 species of resident birds, the largest inhabited in China. The wild swan population is a habitat for birds to breed and cross the summer. There are more than 20 species of mammals, including 2 species of amphibians and 5 species of fish. Among them, there are 8 kinds of protections belonging to the national first-class protection, such as snow leopard, black pheasant, golden eagle, white shoulder carving, etc. There are 25 kinds of secondary protection, such as swan, argali, snow chicken and so on. In the waters of the reserve, there is a national second-class protected animal alpine fish.
The Bayinbulak Nature Reserve, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, is one of the most important animal husbandry bases in Xinjiang. The water supply is mainly composed of ice-snow-dissolved water and rainfall, and groundwater recharge in some areas, forming a large number of swamp grasslands and lakes. Bayinbulak Mongolian means “rich spring water.” The Bayinbulak Prairie, Mongolian means “rich springs”, and the Bayinbulak Prairie has an annual grassland Nadama event, horse racing, archery and other competitions. There is a tourist resort in the territory of Gongnaisi, where the forest is lush.
Xinjiang Gongnaisi Forest Park

The rolling snow ridges and the ice peaks form a natural barrier to the Swan Lake. Spring water, streams and Tianshan snowwater flow into the lake.
